COMPANY CARBON FOOTPRINT
A company’s carbon footprint is a measure of the impact of company’s activities on the environment. The carbon footprint is also an indirect indicator of energy consumption and production of products or services. It is measured by collecting greenhouse gas emissions, and is expressed in CO2 equivalents (CO2e). According to the GHG protocol, the company’s emissions are divided into three areas, or Scopes.
I.
Emissions from directly linked activities from the company’s operations (e.g. emissions from heating, cars owned by the enterprise or emissions from industrial processes and waste disposal).
II.
Emissions released to the atmosphere from the indirect consumption of an energy commodity (e.g. purchase of electricity).
III.
Other indirect emissions – emissions that result of activities from assets not owned or controlled by the company, but that the organization indirectly impacts in its value chain.(e.g. employee travel and commuting)
